ABOUT THE FOUNDERS

King Ray and Cathy Mayer started The Gutter as an alternative platform for sharing and reading comics online. As fans of experimental comics, King & Cathy hope that artists see The Gutter as a great opportunity to dump any work they’re not sure what to do with–maybe it’s too personal for instagram, or too unpolished for the n*w y*rk*r, or it’s just a fun sketchbook page. Send it our way–we’d love to celebrate it!

King is an Ignatz-nominated cartoonist based in Vermont. Their comics swing from extremely silly to horrifically scary.
Cathy is a cartoonist and arts educator based in Los Angeles. Find her comics in The Rumpus, the Florida Review, and of course THE GUTTER. She has two little books published, The Last Time I Saw Deborah (Go Press Girl, 2023) and Wish U Were Here, out this fall with Parsifal Press.
